Sensational and Fascinating Horse Races

As a horse racing fan, your list of best horse races and famous horse races may seem infinite, and if you include horse races around the world, the list can be all the more lengthy.  However, there are a few significant horse races in the United States that attract some of the finest race horses worth a further attention.

One such famous horse race is the Kentucky Derby.  This is the first leg of the legendary Triple Crown.  It is held every year on the 1st Saturday in May.  Since its inception in 1875, the Kentucky Derby has been a fixture in each year.  Some of the renowned race horses that have won this race include Sir Barton, Gallant Fox, Omaha, Whirlaway, Citation, Swaps, Seattle Slew and none other than Secretariat.  Along with its status as one of the best horse races, it is also considered an important social gathering, and as such, the attendance at the Kentucky Derby tends to exceed the attendance at all other stakes races.

The second leg in the Triple Crown is the Preakness Stakes.  This is another of the famous horse races in the United States.  With a few exceptions when the race was not run for various reasons, the Preakness Stakes takes place every year on the 3rd Saturday in May.  Although there are many historical records pertaining to this race, one of the most impressive records by a race horse is the largest margin of victory held by Smarty Jones who won the race in 2004 by 11 ½ lengths.   As with the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes has been won by race horses including Bernardini, Curlin, Rachel Alexander, Smarty Jones and Funny Cide.

The final leg of the Triple Crown is the famous horse race the Belmont Stakes.  This race occurs on a Saturday 3 weeks after the Preakness Stakes and 5 weeks after the Kentucky Derby.   As it is considered the most difficult leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes has earned the nickname "The Test of the Champion".  The winning race horse is draped with a blanket of white carnations so the race is also referred to as "Run for the Carnations."  Secretariat set the record for the largest margin of victory in 1973 with an astounding win by 31 lengths, and this record is still held today.  Some of the race horses that have won the Belmont Stakes in the past include War Admiral, Nashua, Affirmed and A.P. Indy.

Another famous horse, or rather a series of horse races, is the Breeders’ Cup or formally known as the Breeders' Cup World Championships.  Due to the numerous horse races that comprise the Breeders’ Cup, the race began to be held over 2 days in 2007 rather than previous one day affair.  With the exception of 1996, the Breeders’ Cup has been held at race tracks within the United States.  In 1996, Woodbine Racetrack in Canada hosted these best horse races.

Although not everyone can personally attend these famous horse races, these can now be enjoyed in the virtual world.  To stay aware of upcoming horse racing events, Horse Racing Fantasy developed by Horse Racing Simulation LLC has all this information for you.
