Discreet Marq smoothly strides over the Del Mar Oaks

Discreet Marq strongly leading the way with Wishing Gate following behind inside.

Discreet Marq seems to be ripping her way through her races drawing attention from the media. There were a number of updates that I have received over the last few months talking about the ‘fast and the furious’ grey filly.

May 27 witnessed her first start and first win at the Sands Point Stakes. Christophe Clement trained and Patricia Generazio homebred gray filly by Discreet Cat and To Marquet displayed speed and energy winning the race.  Jockey Jose Lezcano led Discreet Marq to lead 1 1/16 miles race and finish in 1:42.50 on the firm turf.

The New York bred was in the limelight again on August 17 at the Del Mar Oaks at Del Mar. Making her way to victor the 300,000 dollars title in 1:47.38 over firm turf course; Julien Leparoux led the gray filly to her third victory of her third start.

Previously trained by Jane Cibelli, the filly looked stronger and better at the Del Mar Race course on the day of the race under her present trainer. Holding her pace till the last turn to the homestretch, she galloped her way from the outside taking a strong lead over pacesetter Need You Now who was leading the way. With the turn to finish coming in closer positions changed drastically, Need You Now who was leading along with Unusual Way following second fell back and were no match to the speedy storm coming in from behind.

At the last stretch of the run; Wishing Gate and Emotional Kitten drew in closer following Discreet Marq who was leading the way with her greatly gallops. The three shot leaving behind the leaders of the race from the start Need You Now and Unusual Way.

Christophe Clement who has an impressive history at Del Mar along with the speedy Discreet Marq definitely is a duo to look forward to.  Clement a four time winner at Del Mar accounts for the Palomar Handicap with Vacare in 2008 and Voodoo Dancer in 2002, Del Mar Oaks with Rutherienne in 2007, Bing Crosby in 2007 again with In Summation.
